The Shallow Utilities Division within Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd was initially establish to provide additional service to our Private Developer Partners. This service involved the installation of Power, Gas, Telecommunication, Cable Television and Street Light wire buried in a common trench “Underground Residential Distribution” (URD) facilities in new subdivisions.
Currently we are an approved URD contractor with Fortis Alberta for subdivisions within Fortis’s service area.
Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd. has been installing Enmax District Energy pipe in Calgary’s down town core since 2008. District Energy is a Thermal Grid System that distributes heating by transporting hot water to buildings. Buildings on the system have no boilers, all their heating is provided by the system. To date we have installed over 8,800 metres of insulated steel pipe in down town Calgary. To expand our service to Enmax, in 2014 Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd. became certified with the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) to enable us to deliver a Quality Management System for the entire Mechanical scope of work required for welding District Energy Pipe.
Expanding our reach with our experience as an “Urban Pipeliner” and our ABSA Certificate of Authorization we prequalified with Atco Gas for their Urban Pipeline Replacement Program. In 2016 we successfully installed over 3,000 metres of 610mm diameter steel gas line pipe in the City of Calgary. This project also involved two Horizontal Directional Drills crossings and a Guided Bore crossing.
Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd. has enjoyed a long successful relationship with Telus installing concrete duct banks into new development areas with in Calgary and the surrounding area.
