Volker Stevin’s Roads Division has developed strong relationships with the land development sector over the last 30 years working extensively in Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere and Strathmore. The Company is committed to serving the City of Calgary, Municipalities in the area around Calgary and the Province of Alberta.

 

Our well established presence in the road construction industry and experience with subdivisions, municipal roadways, major highways, parking lots, pathways, airports and bridge decks means that Volker Stevin is a contractor who can be counted on to complete and manage projects varying in size and complexity.

City of Calgary 52nd Street Surface Improvements

VSC was the successful bidder on the 52nd Street Surface Rehabilitation project which was tendered during the winter of 2016. Located in Calgary’s Southeast Industrial Park, 52nd street is a main through-fare for heavy cargo transportation and larger vehicles servicing the Industrial Park. The project limits were the northbound lanes of 52nd Street from 72nd Ave. to Erin Woods Drive SE. This project focused on surface construction with some minor base repairs identified by city officials.   The project consisted of 43,000m2 of removal and replacement of asphalt, along with 400m of concrete curb and gutter replacement.

Subdivisions in Calgary Area

Over the past 30 years Volker Stevin has play a large role in the building of residential infrastructure in and around the Calgary area. Working with Developers, Engineering Consultants and other subcontractors VSC has provided the construction and management expertise to complete all road construction projects ranging from small to large in size. Services provided include but are not limited to major road construction, collector road construction, residential road construction, top lift paving, lane paving, parking lot construction, adjustment of appurtenances, pathway construction, and traffic accommodations. Several examples of subdivisions currently under construction include Mahogany, Legacy and Nolan Hill.

                                             

Saddleridge

Saddleridge Industrial Park- Phase 1 Onsite

VSC was contracted to build the asphalt pavement structure in a new industrial site located west of Metis Trail and north of 80th Ave NE, in the area surrounding the Calgary International Airport.  The work included 16,900 m2 of major roads, 19,310 m2 of industrial roads, 2976m of concrete curb and gutter, 6,200 m2 of monolithic sidewalks and separate sidewalks, 36 catch basins and 528m of catch basin leads.  The work involved subgrade excavation, subgrade preparation, supply, placement and compaction of sub base gravels, base gravels and Mix A and Mix B Asphalt, and the supply and placement of concrete curbs and sidewalks.

John Laurie Blvd Pavement Rehabilitation Project

VSC was contracted by the City of Calgary to complete the following tasks: The removal and replacement of specified concrete curb and gutter, full depth asphalt rehab which included subgrade prep, geotextile fabric installation, sub base and base course gravel and Mix A Asphalt, milling and disposal of the top 100mm of existing asphalt, repaving the milled area with Super Pave 12.5mm Mix Asphalt, and the adjustment of manholes and valves in the work area.

The project took place on both carriageways of John Laurie Boulevard, from the 14th street exit/entry ramps to the intersection at McKnight Boulevard. Concrete curb and gutter work was completed in June 2016 over the course of a couple of weeks. Milling and paving operations took place in August 2016 over the course of two weekends. Two paving crews placed and compacted over 2,300 tonne of Asphalt in two lifts working together to ensure minimal disruption to traffic.
